Facilitator training this Thursday, next Climate Action Workshop dates, and Global Work Party for Climate Action

From the Ecology Center

September and October are brimming with opportunities to take climate action!
Meet your neighbors and make a measurable difference through these fun and free upcoming events:

1) Climate Action Facilitator Training: This Thursday, 9/23, 6-9pm at the Ecology Center

2) Global Work Party: Sunday, 10/10/10, across Berkeley and beyond
2) 3-Session Climate Action Workshop Series: October 12, 19, 26, 6:30-8:30pm at the Ecology Center

Read on for more information…
Free Climate Action Facilitator Training

This Thursday, September 23, 6-9pm at the Ecology Center

Expand your role as a climate action advocate with the Ecology Center’s free one-session facilitator trainings. Whether or not you’ve already participated in a Climate Action Workshop series, you can learn how to lead your own series with friends, family, neighbors, coworkers, congregation members or others. Just come to our one-session facilitator training. We’ll share materials and strategies to help you easily mobilize your community members, and we’ll provide ongoing support as you plan and hold your own series. No experience necessary to participate.

By organizing a series, you’ll be given free membership to the Ecology Center for a year if you have not previously been a member

On October 10, 350.org Berkeley invites you to deepen your work on climate change by taking part in our Global Work Party. Start your planning here.

We are challenging neighbors, non-profits, community-based organizations, places of worship, schools, youth organizations, businesses — and YOU to join us in continuing to transform Berkeley into an environmentally sustainable, vibrant and healthy community. Through local climate action projects, we’ll make our policymakers wake up and take the lead on creating climate solutions.

Here’s how you can get involved:

  • Start your own Work Party. Organize your own work party with your neighborhood. Some party examples: create or work on a backyard garden (with help from the Victory Garden Foundation), host a zero-waste potluck, plant trees, fix bikes… anything that reduces greenhouse gas emissions! Some environmental organizations have also offered to host work parties.
  • Take the 10/10 Challenge. Commit to take action to reduce your carbon footprint. Ride your bike, insulate your home, reduce your meat consumption, sign up for a CSA, and look for more ideas here
  • Come celebrate! Community Picnic and Party, Civic Center Park (Martin Luther King and Center cross streets), 3-5 pm. Come celebrate our accomplishments! Bring your own (local, organic and minimally packaged — if possible) food and enjoy live music, speakers and kids’ activities while meeting other 10/10/10 participants.

For more information, visit www.101010berkeley.org

Free 3-session Climate Action Workshop

Tuesdays, October 12, 19, 26, 6:30-8:30pm

Where: Ecology Center (2530 San Pablo Ave, between Dwight and Parker, Berkeley, CA)

Time: 6:30pm – 8:30pm

Dates: Tuesdays, October 12, 19, 26 (attendance at all sessions is requested)

RSVP: debra

During three sessions, you will:

  • Consider ways to reduce your ecological footprint and make changes in your community
  • Take action (as much or as little as you choose)
  • Access the wisdom, advice, and collaboration of your community members and receive valuable information and support from the Ecology Center as you make individual and collective changes.

By participating in all sessions, you’ll be given free membership to the Ecology Center for a year if you have not previously been a member.

We hope you can join us!
